Alat ini berfungsi untuk mengatur besaran daya hisap (vakum/tekanan vakum) yang dihasilkan dari inlet vakum pada instalasi vakum medis. Daya hisap ini memungkinkan pengeluaran cairan dari tubuh pasien selama prosedur tindakan atau pembedahan. Regulator harus dihubungkan ke sumber vakum di dinding (instalasi vakum medis), dan besaran daya hisap ditentukan oleh tenaga medis sesuai kebutuhan fasilitas pelayanan kesehatan. Alat ini tidak diperkenankan digunakan untuk pasien bayi.
